Abstract
The well-established benefits of collaborative learning are particularly relevant in the context of teaching translation, as many studies have highlighted. However, previous research has mainly focused on project-based learning over a relatively long time period. In this project, we wanted to test the integration of a collaborative learning approach into a single-day workshop on metaphor translation that could be easily adapted for existing curricula as a classroom activity or as a CPD for translation professionals.
The learning assessment after the workshop showed a 5% improvement in participants’ translation skills, while the participant survey showed a perceived improvement in learning of 15%. The survey also indicated a more positive perception of the benefits of group activities compared to individual activities in all 4 domains that it explored: Learning, Motivation, Social Skills and Belonging.
