Abstract
The first example of B,C'-bridging in the comma bis(dicarbollide) series are presented. The sandwich metallacarborane synthesized is neutral due to the formation of a sulfonium group bridging one carbon from one half and one boron from the second half to yield [1',8-µSEt-3,3'-Co(1-Ph-2-SEt-1,2-C2B 9H9)9'-Ph-1'9'-C2B 9H8)]. A nucleophilic substitution is involved to account for its formation. A rearrangement from 3,1,2-CoC2B9 to 3,1,9-CoC2B9 has taken place. The molecular structure is proven by an X-ray analysis.
