Abstract

Stakeholder Management (SM) involves the processes necessary to identify the human resources, groups or organisations that could influence or be influenced by the project, understand their expectations and impact on the project to develop appropriate strategies for engagement. Therefore, well-managed multi-stakeholders helps to achieve an effective decision-making process that addresses sustainability issues. This paper aims to identify and examine the critical success factors (CSFs) required for implementing SM in sustainable building projects. A quantitative research strategy was adopted to collect primary questionnaire data from construction professionals in the UK. The questionnaire was distributed to 1632 professionals via emails and LinkedIn. 249 responses were received, and 155 valid responses were used for this study. The data gathered was analysed using descriptive statistics and exploratory factor analysis. The contribution of SM towards achieving SM were found and grouped into four constructs of stakeholders' characteristics and project characteristics (SCPC), stakeholder analysis (SA), stakeholders' dynamics (SD), and stakeholder engagement (SE). it was evident that SM makes significant contributions in achieving sustainable building and as such project managers must optimally manage project participants.
