Abstract

Two tellurite glass compositions in the TeO2-ZNO-NaO system were synthesised and their suitability as a fibre core/clad material pair was investigated through the analysis of their thermal and rheological properties and their refractive indices. The fibre preform was manufactured by extrusion technique which allowed us to produce a triple core optical fibre structure, having a controlled inter core distance and circular core profiles. Optical assessment of the fibre around standard telecom wavelength showed that the 3 cores possess similar transmission properties with an attenuation of 6.8 dB/m. © 2007 IEEE.
