Abstract

This article presents partial results of the research Amazonian Indigenous Wisdom: Shaping Climate Solutions for Brazil, which aims to co-design, together with indigenous communities in the Amazon, mitigation and adaptation strategies for climate change based on ontologies and traditional knowledge. The research adopts a participatory and collaborative approach, combining digital tools—such as Geographic Information System (GIS) and StoryMaps with qualitative and ethnographic methods, including interviews, mental mapping workshops, and photographic records. Fieldwork was conducted in six villages of four ethnic groups in the state of Acre, Brazil. The integration of data into online GIS platforms and the creation of StoryMaps have enabled the spatial representation of local knowledge and experiences, valuing indigenous ways of relating to the territory. The results highlight the potential of GIS and StoryMaps as tools for intercultural dialogue, critical visualisation, and decision-making support, contributing to fairer climate policies grounded in local realities.
