Enhancement of coherent laser radar performance by predetection amplification

Abstract

Design, signal amplification and noise features of a compact, large area multifield RF excited CO2 laser amplifier are described. Its application is discussed in a coherent lidar system in a predetection mode. Based on critical parameters of the system, the observed performance enhancement is discussed.
