Abstract

The near-adiabatic theory has been applied to interpret the dissociative charge-transfer reactions of methane with H2+ and He+. The results are consistent with the proposition that the appearance potentials of the fragment ions correspond to electronic energy levels of the CH4+ ion. An internal energy distribution of the primary product CH4+ ion is obtained by plotting the relative abundance against the appearance potential for the various fragment ions. © 1975.
