Abstract

Drug testing is the key method to detect offenders of anti-doping regulations in elite and amateur sport worldwide. Even though the use of prohibited substances in sport ("doping") has been prohibited within international sport since the 1930s, it was not until the late 1960s that drug tests were installed. Today, the World Anti-Doping Agency, through its World Anti-Doping Code, provides the overall guidelines for drug testing in sport and attempts to harmonize anti-doping policies and testing procedures by sports organisations and public authorities.
