Disclination renormalization of the disjoining pressure between walls bounding a nematic liquid crystal

Abstract

It is shown that a positive disjoining pressure is exerted when nematic liquid crystals are confined between antagonistically anchoring walls. This pressure is derived from the elastic energy of rotation of the director. The negative corrections are calculated.
