Abstract
Digitalization has become embedded in global value chains and offers the opportunity to achieve sustainable development, which has been considered highly relevant. The use of digital opportunities is increasingly supported by business processes; however, it is undeniable that the implementation of digitalization, especially in emerging economies, has not been thoroughly researched. This paper explores the characteristics of digitalization in agriculture and its challenges of implementation. Using a qualitative analysis present study use Mono Premium Melon as a case, integrate diffusion of innovation theory to identify impact factors of the adoption of digital technologies. We found relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, trialability, and observability act as determinants of IoT and irrigation system adoption. This study offers a valuable contribution to an area that lacks an empirical foundation by providing theoretical underpinning to agro-digital technology penetration literature and to address policy gaps that arise in scenarios of digitization of agriculture.
