Abstract
A method for the detection of friction anomalies in a pneumatic linear bearing is described. In this method an optical interferometer is used to accurately measure the force acting on the moving part of the bearing. To demonstrate the performance of the method, oil and fats were carefully deposited on the guideway of a pneumatic linear bearing and then the total force acting on the moving part was accurately measured with the described method.
