Abstract
The results of research carried out by Hansen in the early 1940's on 'ideal' re-entrant cavity geometries, has generated data which permits, through graphical methods, the prediction of the performance and characteristics of such resonators. This data is still relied upon today in the design of re-entrant cavities for use in, for example, microwave tubes and microwave filters. In an attempt to improve the design process for reentrant cavities which are more representative of 'real' cavity configurations, a series of EM simulations have been performed to provide more precise characteristics for design purposes. Simulations of a range of cylindrical re-entrant resonant cavities have been carried out, and corrections to the Hansen data are suggested.
