Abstract

This volume discussed aspects of international (and intercultural) workplaces relating to communication, leadership and trust. This chapter brings everything together and takes stock of the challenges and opportunities inherent in intercultural workplaces through cross-cultural scenarios. We discuss seven scenarios. The first two scenarios focus on leadership, virtual teams, ethnocentrism, Islamic finance, and gender in the workplace. Scenarios #3 and #4 focus on cross-cultural negotiation, intercultural issues in finance and translation and interpreting. Scenarios #5 and #6 focus on trust, dignity and diversity and intercultural perceptions of work, leisure and time and Scenario #7 discusses organisational culture and deaf people in the workplace.
