Abstract
In the January 2004 issue of Ibis (146.1), Votier and colleagues used unpublished estimates of South Polar Skuas Stercorarius maccormicki and hybridization rates from the region east of Enderby Land and west of Ellsworth Land on the Antarctic continent. The database on Southern Ocean larids, attributed to Eric Woehler is, correctly, that compiled by the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research Group of Experts on Birds (GEB) and currently maintained by Eric Woehler, chair of the GEB, at Australian Antarctic Division, Hobart, Australia. In addition, in respect of the breeding population of Brown Skua Catharacta antarctica in the Falklands, the authors’ attention has been drawn to a published estimate of 5000–9000 pairs by Woods and Woods (1997) in the Atlas of the Breeding Birds of the Falkland Islands.
