Abstract
Looks at policies for national and regional economic planning and uses the example of Livingstone in Scotland: a new town designed to take advantage of new growth industries in the 1960s and now suffering from the relocation policies of many of the original industries. The recession, present regional policy and the internationl capitalist system are analysed to find the reasons for the area's decline.-R.Land
