Abstract
Computers and information technology are now being used to a considerable extent in the betting and racing industry, both on-course and off-course. This ranges from issuing bets, calculating dividends and payroll accounting to a sophisticated satellite-linked communication service. This paper describes the use of computers and information technology in the betting industry and speculates about future developments. © 1990 Butterworth-Heinemann Ltd.
