Abstract

A direct comparison was made among types of optical arrangement used for folding in a compact sealed Z-fold CO2 waveguide laser excited by a transverse RF discharge. Output power was measured as a function of discharge conditions and mirror alignment for plane and curved mirror and partial waveguide-folded resonators and their performance characteristics compared. To date the laser has produced an unoptimized maximum output of 53.4 W from 115 cm of discharge, i.e., 0.46 W/cm.
