Abstract

This paper demonstrates that high performance speed and position control can be obtained by using sliding mode control methods for a vector-controlled induction machine. Four sliding mode control laws are studied and compared for speed and position control. An extended Kalman filter scheme for rotor resistance estimation is used. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can achieve accurate speed/position tracking in the presence of load disturbances and rotor resistance variation. Important conclusions are reached regarding the merits and drawbacks of each of the sliding mode techniques.
