Abstract
This chapter describes the design of a mode converter that employs a custom-sized circular TE11 pulsed-magnetron output waveguide insulated with ceramic. The device is connected to a standard WR650 TE10 waveguide insulated with air. The mode converter was designed using the LC matching technique on a rectangular waveguide and manufactured with CNC technology.
The mode converter has a return loss of less than −20 dB within a 1.29 to 1.31 GHz bandwidth. This converter is integrated into the High-Power Electromagnetic Radiator (RIDAD). When the RIDAD operates at a nominal power of 1.3 MW, the mode converter outputs 1.28 MW, indicating a conversion efficiency of 98.4%.
