Abstract

In a recent paper, He et al. (1994) described the use of fiber optic probe system to measure profiles of vertical particle velocities in the spout and fountain of half-section and full-section spouted beds. They state that the question of whether the flat plate in a half-section column effects particle velocity had not been investigated previously. This letter reverses this statement by He and his co-workers and attests that the subject, in fact, was investigated and quantitative data were obtained by Boulos and Waldie (1985, 1986) who used laser doppler anemometry.
