Case Study: Community-Partnered Problem Solving for Sustainable Logistics

This case study presents the Social Logistics Challenge, an authentic group assessment in which students identify a real-world sustainability-related logistics problem, work with an external organisation, and develop practical solutions communicated through a video or podcast and supporting report. The approach integrates education for sustainable development with community engagement and develops students’ systems thinking, stakeholder engagement, communication, climate literacy and employability skills. It also demonstrates how authentic assessment can connect sustainability learning with practical challenges faced by businesses, councils and charities.
