Abstract
The build up of phase conjugate stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in an optical fiber was investigated in the case of excitation by a long pulse. The source of pump radiation was a single longitudinal and transverse mode neodymium laser. The SBS build up time was found to vary from one microsecond to almost 0.5 ms, depending on the pump power and the feedback strength from the fiber ends.
