Abstract
The purified enzyme exists as monomeric, dimeric and tetrameric forms, and the monomeric molecular weight represents the minimal molecular weight. The coexistence of polymeric forms may explain the bovine serum albumin activation. Complex formation between butyryl CoA synthetase and albumin may shift an existing equilibrium towards the formation of more active species. The albumin synthetase complex may itself possess enhanced catalytic activity.
