Abstract
The recent control of both n- and p-type doping in ZnSe and related II-VI alloys has resulted in the development of the first blue diode lasers by the 3M Company and a range of modulator and optical switching devices at Heriot-Watt University. This paper briefly reviews the important steps which were taken towards these new optoelectronic devices that are important for future optical recording, printing and display systems operating in the visible spectrum. © 1993.
