Abstract

The cost of performing experiments at sea to collect acoustic and oceanographic data is very high, and the financial cost is primarily attributed to the cost of ship hire. However, it is also a well-recognized fact that trials are extremely heavy on personnel time, requiring meticulous preparations. An automated acoustic transmit, receive and data acquisition facility which minimizes considerably the effort required during sea trials is presented. The directional projector system used for automated acoustic data collection experiments is very robust and accurate.
