Abstract
The application of the recursion method to a disordered system is considered. It is argued that in this case the recursion coefficients a n and bn will continue to fluctuate at infinity and that these fluctuations are due to localised states. They may be related to the inverse participation ratio of such states. Numerical calculations corroborate this interpretation quantitatively.
