Abstract

This paper reports an investigation of performance enhancement for electronically tunable microstrip filter. Based on the effects of lossy components on passband response of a bandpass filter, a new concept to improve the performance (passband flatness and selectivity) is proposed. Unlike other techniques published, this new concept results in nonuniform Q distribution by loading lumped elements to reduce the unloaded Q of the resonator. As examples, fixed and tunable microstrip combline filters with narrow band are simulated and fabricated to validate the proposed concept.
