Abstract
Microgrids have become popular to meet the demands of electrical energy in various fields of industry, agriculture, services and daily life due to their flexibility, effectiveness, and especially support and encouragement of the exploitation and exploration of local renewable energy sources. To ensure efficient and reliable operation in steady-state as well as fault conditions, the microgrid should have an optimal protection system. This paper proposes to improve the reliability of an islanded microgrid using an advanced cuckoo search (CS) algorithm. This proposal is applied to RBTSIEEE-6 bus power system. The advanced CS algorithm-based achievements are compared with those by using other algorithms to validate the proposal.
