Abstract

A description is given of an optically bistable nonlinear interference filter that has been operated as a spatial switch to route an optical signal carrying video information between fibers. A single ZnSe nonlinear interference filter was used to redirect a broadband signal between a pair of optical fibers. The architecture and operation of the switch are described.
