Abstract

In this paper we present the design of an optical microphone incorporating a distributed feedback fibre-laser sensor. The acoustic frequency response of the device is characterized at low frequencies (up to 250 Hz) and found to deliver a wavelength responsivity of -62 dB re 1 nm Pa-1. Experimental results are compared to a theoretical description of the device that is based upon a mass-spring model. © 2007 IOP Publishing Ltd.
