Abstract
A Project Management Office (PMO) is a central hub for defining and maintaining organisational project management practices. Despite the widespread establishment of PMOs across industries, their value is often overlooked, primarily due to poor implementation or a lack of understanding regarding their role in aligning project outcomes with corporate strategy. This study explores the different types of PMOs, their roles and functions, and the success factors necessary for their effective implementation. Through a mixed methods approach consisting of an extensive literature review, a questionnaire, a survey, and interviews with industry experts, this research identifies the essential resources, steps, and milestones necessary to implement a PMO successfully. The study also explores common pitfalls and success factors for PMO implementation. Finally, a PMO framework is proposed based on the literature review and surveys to identify a structured roadmap for organizations looking to achieve optimal results from their PMOs.
