Abstract
A vortex-shedding flowmeter using multimode optical fibre as the bluff body has been demonstrated experimentally in water flows up to 5 m s-1. Incoherent (LED) illumination and detection of the signal frequency from intensity modulation make the design very simple and cheap to produce. Results for five fibre samples are presented.
