Abstract
A theoretical study in the framework of a variational approach is presented for the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam (FPU) chain interacting with an extra electron. Standing three-component soliton solutions which describe coupled states of an acoustic polaron with longitudinal lattice vibrations are found. This result is confirmed by numerical simulations and extended qualitatively to a chain with a realistic inter-particle potential of a general form.
