Winner - British Data Awards - Data for Good Initiative of the Year

Prize: Prize (including medals and awards)

Description

My involvement as a linguistics consultant in the collaborative project between the Data Education in Schools project and the Scottish Sensory Centre at the University of Edinburgh is remarkable. Through this initiative, approximately 500 British Sign Language terms related to data science, cybersecurity, and computing science were developed. The project aimed to promote equitable access to qualifications and careers in these fields for the Deaf community. Moreover, the creation of videos for each sign, along with additional videos providing definitions suitable for school learners, has significantly enhanced accessibility and educational resources. The impressive engagement of 54,000 users with this content in less than a year underscores its impact and relevance.
