Research interests
My research interests lie in the area of business communication and particularly in the investigation of linguistic, textual and pragmatic features of business genres. I have published on these topics and presented at many international conferences. I also supervise PhD theses in related areas across a range of languages, and have supervised several to completion.
Biography
I am an Associate Professor in Languages & Intercultural Studies. I graduated with a BA Hons Languages (Interpreting & Translating) from Heriot-Watt University, an MLitt from the University of St Andrews, and a PhD in Languages from Heriot-Watt University. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Roles & Responsibilities
Teaching
I currently teach business communication at Masters level and translation from French to English at undergraduate level. I also supervise dissertations across topics in intercultural and business communication.
Leadership
I am currently the Academic Dean of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. I am the Chair of the University Studies Committee and Vice-Chair of the University Committee of Quality & Standards, and I am a member of the Senate and a number of other University committees and groups.
I have previously held various other leadership positions including Director of Postgraduate Programmes in the School of Social Sciences and Head of the Department of Languages & Intercultural Studies.
Citizenship
I am a mentor and buddy to early career colleagues.
