Research interests

Dr Viktorija Mano is an Assistant Professor at the Heriot-Watt University Dubai. In this role, she is responsible for the MBA business project and teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Economics and Finance.

Her areas of specialisation include economic policy research, quantitative and qualitative software analysis, academic quality assurance processes, program leadership, and curriculum development. Dr Mano is deeply passionate about research in development economics, the circular economy, and innovative pedagogical approaches. She is dedicated to exploring these fields through both teaching and research, reflecting her engaging nature and commitment to advancing knowledge in her areas of interest.

Dr Mano is an early career researcher with specialism in economic development research. Her background in mixed-method analysis and critical institutional theory and has experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis underpinned by complexity theory and non-linearism. Her earlier research publications and funding therefore were around promoting her findings from her PhD studies through numerous conferences funded by several different institutions (Poznan University, Santander Bank, Society of Latin American studies, University of Roehampton) and several outputs in the form of journal articles, book chapters, conference proceedings and blogs.

Dr Viktorija is also deeply passionate about gender inclusivity, specially creating opportunities for women to feel economically empowered. Being an active scholar in economics and finance she has always engaged in ways to further promote innovative approaches in economic teaching and supporting women economics researchers. As a result she has been awarded a stipend by the Royal Economic Society to participate in the Women in the field of Economic Research retreat and is an active member in Rethinking Economics, a global network of students and organisers fighting for a new way of teaching and practising economics in light of two main challenges, inequality and climate change. She has also been awarded Erasmus Staff Mobility funding, two years in a row and is continuously working towards empowering women economically through recent projects.

Throughout her education, Dr Viktorija has been a stipend holder for several times. She was awarded a three-year Vice Chancellor's Studentship for her PhD research at the University of Roehampton. Her research focused on evaluating the effectiveness of economic policies in transitional economies, contributing valuable insights to the economic and social research field. She has been awarded a scholarships for undertaking her Undergraduate studies in Economics, by the Ministry of Education in Greece and as part of her secondary education, she was awarded a government stipend for talented classical musicians by the Ministry of Education of Macedonia.
