Research interests
I have a well-established international research profile (H-Index 22, over 1.4k citations, 10 years since PhD) at the intersection of Language Technology and Machine Learning, for interdisciplinary applications including Decision Support, Human-Robot Interaction, Spoken Dialogue Systems, and Natural Language Generation, where I pioneered the use of Reinforcement Learning in multimodal conversational interfaces. I currently lead a research group of 7 full-term researchers (4 RAs, 3 PhDs). I have a total of >£3M grant income with 3 national research projects funded over the past 2 years. My current activities include serving as ACL area chair (2017, 2018) and as faculty advisor for the Amazon Alexa challenge (2017, 2018).
