Personal profile

Research interests

It is my intention that my physics and engineering training bridge with Life Sciences to ensure an integrated approach to multidisciplinary research. My experience spans across the fields of ultrasonics, fluid mechanics, image and signal processing, applied mathematical modelling and applied statistics, in vivo preclinical imaging, nano-mechanics of cells and microbubbles.

A common thread in my career has been the desire to understand and improve microvascular imaging.  The quantitative assessment of the microvascular flow appears to be an important biomarker for a number of disease states and their therapy. During the initial phase of my research career I have been involved mainly with the basic physical understanding that I believe is required to make advances in current technology.

My medium term aim is to translate my research into clinical and preclinical research applications. My longer term goal is to broaden my activity into technology that traces biological processes spatially and temporally in vivo, as it is increasingly in demand in the clinic and the Life Science research.
