Biography

Dr Vahid Razaviarani is an Assistant Professor for the Chemical Engineering Department at Heriot-Watt University, and the global programm director for the MSc global sustainability engineering program. He is the coordinator of the Chemical Engineering Laboratory.

Dr Razaviarani has served about two years as a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Princeton University. Prior to joining Princeton University, he has worked as a research associate at the Edmonton Waste Management Center of Excellence, Alberta, Canada.

Research interests

His areas of interest include:

  • Sustainability and Waste-to-Energy processes 
  • Algae-based cultivation, CO2 capture and phycoremediation 
  • Carbon sequestration and reclamation of organic waste 
  • Desalination, microbial desalination cell and membrane technologies 
  • Chemical, physical and microbial contaminant fate and transformation of organic compounds 
  • Water/wastewater reused and reclamation 
  • Microbial Electrochemical Systems and Technologies
