Dr Swapnesh Masrani is the Programme Director of MSc International Business Management at the Edinburgh Business School. Prior to joining the University, he worked at the University of Stirling where he was the Deputy Director of the MBA.
A member of the School’s Strategy and Enterprise group, Swapnesh teaches at the post-graduate and undergraduate level. Over the years he has developed and delivered courses in Strategic Management, Business Simulation, Business Research Methods, Business Start-ups, Business Models, International Business, Managing in Emerging Markets, and Managing Family Business.
Swapnesh has received a number of awards from students for his contribution to programme management and teaching. 2024: Winner of Graduates Teaching Award (only one award is given per-School to recognise and celebrate the work of individual academic staff who have gone above and beyond to support, improve and enhance the learning and teaching experience for students). 2024: Nominated for Academic Community Award. 2023: Nominated for ‘Most Supportive Member of Staff’ (Oscars, Student-led). 2017: Nominated in following areas for student led awards ‘Recognising Achievement in Teaching Excellence’ (RATE) at University of Stirling: Santander Outstanding Achievement Award; Excellence in teaching in Stirling Management School; I ‘heart’ my tutor; Postgraduate Supervisor of the year; Fantastic Feedback Award
His research interest is in Strategic Management and Business & Management History. His particular interests are in evolution of management practice in India during 20th century, history of management education, and family business. He has published in leading journals such as Business History, British Journal of Management, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, and frequently contributes to The Conversation. He has co-edited the Special Issue in Business History titled: The Rise of Indian Business in the Global Context in the Twentieth Century: a Review and Introduction. Swapnesh is also Associate Editor of Journal of Management Development.
He completed his PhD from the University of St-Andrews on the decline of the Dundee’s jute industry.
