Research interests

My research concentrates on financial and governance issues in sport, with a particular focus on professional football. I am interested in the intersection between sport organisations as businesses and sport organisations as social institutions, and exploring the implications of this dual identity. I have published three single authored academic books on the business of professional football and authored/co-athored around 50 peer reviewed publications, as well as numerous book chapters, 

Biography

My academic background is in the areas of accounting and finance. I am a Chartered Accountant (ICAS), who has held academic positions in academic departments of Accountancy and Finance (Heriot-Watt University), Sport Studies / Schol of Sport (University of Stirling) and now in the Management deaprtment of Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University. My role involves teaching, primarily on the MSc in International Sport Management and research, where my work focuses on management issues within sport. In addition I work with a number of sport governing bodies on different knowledge exchange and impact projects. Since 2007 I have led management workshops for aspirant football managers as part of the Scottish Football Association's UEFA Pro-licence qualification.
