Biography

Personal Statement

Stephen is an Assistant Professor at Edinburgh Business School of Heriot-Watt University. His research is primarily focused on entrepreneurial ecosystems and the role of the state in creating a nurturing environment for the growth of new ventures.

Stephen is also committed to regional development and sustainable cities. Recent projects on which he has collaborated include researching the adaptation of urban wasteland in deprived communities to support urban farming and sustainable agricultural practices, and a Scottish Government funded project reporting on the potential decarbonising aviation in Scotland.

Stephen is also a doctoral researcher at the University of Strathclyde. Prior to this, Stephen gained an MA in Slavonic Studies from the University of Glasgow, and an LLB from the Open University. Stephen also holds an MA in European Studies from the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, where his research focused on the social and economic consequences of EU enlargement on neighbouring third countries, on which subject Stephen has published in European Journals.

Teaching Interests

I bring a diverse range of interdisciplinary knowledge to my teaching work. I have degrees in Slavic languages, politics, history, international relations, economics, law and business, and I have taught Russian, English, business and literature.
