Biography

Dr Shaharudin Yunus is an Assistant Professor at Edinburgh Business School, School of Social Sciences, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia. He has over 20 years of experience in higher education, with a strong track record in postgraduate and undergraduate teaching, curriculum leadership, dissertation supervision, and quality assurance and accreditation. He is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA), recognising sustained leadership and impact in teaching and learning. His leadership roles include Programme Director for Postgraduate Programmes, Global Course Leader for Strategic Change and Systems Thinking and Analysis, and PGT Dissertation Coordinator. He has contributed extensively to Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) accreditation, Project Management Institute (PMI) accreditation and reaccreditation, and Chartered Management Institute (CMI) centre reaccreditation. His teaching adopts a student-centred and applied approach, incorporating case-based learning, simulation-based learning (e.g., En-ROADS, MIT Beer Game), and industry engagement to enhance student experience. His research focuses on business ethics, strategic change, and organisational development, with an emphasis on ethical decision-making, governance, and workforce capability development. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to externally funded research, including a Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) project on workforce upskilling and reskilling through industry-driven TVET.

Dr Shaharudin Yunus’s research focuses on business ethics, strategic management, and organisational change. His work explores ethical decision-making, moral reasoning, ethical work climates, and corporate social responsibility (CSR), as well as strategic change and organisational development. He is also interested in operations management, innovation management, and workforce capability development, particularly in the context of upskilling and reskilling through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and industry–institution collaboration.

Roles & Responsibilities

Dr Shaharudin Yunus holds several academic leadership and administrative roles at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia. He has served as Programme Director for Postgraduate Programmes at Edinburgh Business School (2016–2019; 2021–2023) and currently serves as PGT Dissertation Coordinator. He has also held roles as Global Course Leader for Strategic Change and Systems Thinking and Analysis, and as Year 1 and Year 2 Coordinator for undergraduate business programmes. He contributes to quality assurance and accreditation activities, including Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) accreditation, Project Management Institute (PMI) accreditation and reaccreditation, and Chartered Management Institute (CMI) centre reaccreditation. He is also involved in curriculum development, assessment leadership, and programme enhancement. In addition, he serves on university and school committees, including disciplinary and academic governance-related roles.

Research Grants and Projects

Dr Shaharudin Yunus has been involved in externally funded and internal research projects. He is Co-Investigator on a Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) project titled “Upskilling and reskilling the workforce via industry-driven TVET: Strategies to initiate industry-institution partnership in Malaysia,” awarded in September 2019 with a total grant value of RM85,000. He has also received UNITAR Academic Research Fund support for his doctoral research on moral reasoning among managers in Malaysia (2009), and a UNITAR University Research Grant (2012) for a study on perceived ethical work climates among employees in business organisations in Malaysia.
