Dr Sa Thin Wetsandornphong is an Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management at Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University. He is a Logistics and Supply Chain Management course leader and teaches several other courses relevant to supply chain, procurement, logistics and operations management.
In terms of research, he is keen on expanding his current work on utilising the concept of ambidexterity to foster collaboration and integration and produce holistic results and outcomes, sometimes known as sustainable performance in the supply chain domain. He has produced some notable research pieces. He received the prestigious James Cooper Memorial Cup in 2023 for his PhD thesis from the Logistics Research Network (LRN), part of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) UK. In addition, one of his papers was awarded the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Award UK. His master’s dissertation was also awarded with Distinction, and he graduated as the valedictorian of his class.
Prior to his current role, he served as the Programme Lead at the University of Bolton. In this capacity, he oversaw academic operations, including teaching, curriculum design and development, and accreditation of logistics and supply chain management programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He played a pivotal role in guiding students through the successful completion of their dissertations and projects. Additionally, he provided central development, commercial and project management functions for a range of collaborative provision partnerships for transnational education, covering various disciplines. He also led several industry-university collaborative projects in the supply chain management domain with well-established companies such as Warburtons and Eddie Stobart.
His commercial experience enriches his academic journey. Before joining academia, he gained over ten years of diverse industry experience in various supply chain settings, such as rail rolling stock, renewable energy and steel manufacturing sectors. His areas of specialisation are strategic sourcing, procurement, supplier evaluation, approval and development, contract management, category and commodity management, and logistics. This practical experience has equipped him with a deep understanding of translating business directions into sustainable and profitable results. He is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) UK.
