Personal profile

Biography

I am an Associate Professor, Lyell Fellow, and leader of the Carbon-Water Dynamics team. My research focusses on modern water, carbon and nutrient cycles across critical interfaces, including soil-river, land-ocean and water-atmosphere to characterise and identify fundamental interactions that impact and result from our changing Earth.

Research interests

My work transcends the major biomes of Earth from higher latitudes to the Tropics, supported by an active research portfolio including an ERC Starting Grant, the UKRI Global Challenges Research Fund, industry and international charities, and focusses on five inter-related themes:

  1. Transport and reactivity of carbon and pollutants under changing environmental regimes
  2. Carbon and its role in regulating gas exchange between water and atmosphere
  3. Advancing technology to characterise carbon in the environment
  4. Ensuring water security
  5. Engaging audiences through immersive Virtual Reality (VR) and gamification
