I have a keen interest in educational research. Throughout my career I have studied formal and informal learning in a wide variety of disciplines (e.g., aviation, mathematics, scuba diving). Furthermore, I have made significant contributions to large research projects in Europe and the USA. Also, I am well-versed in both quantitative (i.e., experimental studies) and qualitative (e.g., Thematic Analysis, IPA) research methods.
I obtained my PhD in 2005 from the Open University of the Netherlands and completed a Postdoctoral Research Project at Carnegie Mellon University in 2009. For this work I was awared the Cognition and Student Learning best paper award at the CogSci 2008 conference.
During my current position at HWU I have developed a partnership with Diveheart and obtained my SHEA in 2023.
Since August 2022 I hold the Undergraduate Programme Director role at our Psychology department and have led our team towards the BPS accreditation in 2023. Additionally, I am an EmPOWER Impact Coach and a member of the university's Mental Health Response Team.
