Biography

Rania Kamla joined Accounting, Economics and Finance department as a Chair in Accounting. Rania had previously worked at Dundee University and the University of Aberdeen before joining Heriot Watt in July 2012.

Rania has published in a number of leading accounting journals like Accounting, Organisations and Society (AOS); Critical Perspectives on Accounting (CPA) and Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal (AAAJ). She is also a member of the editorial board of CPA; AAAJ; and Accounting and Business Research (ABR) journals.

Research interests

Rania’s  research interests are in the areas of critical accounting, social accounting, international accounting (especially with a focus upon the Arab world), accounting and culture (with particular reference to Islamic accounting) and the accounting profession in the context of globalisation.

Rania is engaged with projects related to the role of women in the accounting profession, especially in the Arab and Islamic world context; issues of language and international accounting standards and the role of critical Muslim intellectuals thought in developing an emancipatrory Islamic accounting thought. Rania’s work is interdisciplinary and is especially influenced by critical and postcolonial theorising.
