Personal profile

Biography

I am a visiting research professor in the School of Textiles and Design, Heriot Watt University. I have previously managed MA programmes at Manchester Metropolitan University, Glasgow School of Art, Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (UCE), Duncan of Jordanstone College (Dundee University) and contributed to the setting up of the School of Art, Design and Media at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore). I have been conducting research into the role of drawing in the design process since the mid 1980s and have published widely in conference proceedings and in refereed journals.  My book 'Drawing in the Design Process:Characterizing Industrial and Educational Practice' was published by Intellect Books in 2016. The Drawing Research Group in the School of Textiles and Design has been set up under my leadership to foster academic research and publishing in the area of drawing research for textile design, manufacture and education.
