Research interests

Dr. Hartmann’s research explores the theory of quantum optical, quantum electronic and nanomechanical systems. He develops strategies for controlling and engineering the dynamics of these quantum systems which are very well amenable to experimental implementations. His work aims at laying the foundations for applications of these quantum devices in future technology.

Biography

Dr. Hartmann studied physics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and received his PhD from University of Stuttgart in 2005. After working three years as a Feodor-Lynen Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at Imperial College London he was awarded an Emmy Noether fellowship of the German Research Foundation to build up his own research group at Technical University Munich in 2008. He joined Heriot-Watt University in 2013 as a Reader.
