Biography
Martha Caddell is Professor of Higher Education Policy and Pedagogy and Director of the global Learning and Teaching Academy at Heriot-Watt University. She is the university’s senior academic leader in learning and teaching, responsible for institutional strategy development and implementation, enhancing teaching culture, and securing effective academic development across campuses in Scotland, Dubai and Malaysia and partners globally.
Martha is recognised nationally and internationally for her strategic leadership of educational transformation; championing flexible learner journeys and widening participation; inspiring educational leadership and academic development; enabling authentic student-staff partnership and diverse learning communities; and driving sector collaboration and enhancement activity. She has extensive experience leading sector collaborative projects and networks focused on educational enhancement, and has led strategic partnerships with college, industry and third sector partners to drive flexible learner journeys.
Her academic background is in international and comparative education, with research and scholarship projects spanning education for sustainable development, education policy and practice in civil war and conflict, widening participation, and support for educational leadership, including course and programme leadership in higher education.
Martha is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
